The 2017 Citywide Kwanzaa Planning Kollective is proud to acknowledge the lives and work of African American men and women in our community. Below are categories that will be acknowledged at the 2017 Citywide Kwanzaa Celebration. Please nominate a member of the African American community that has demonstrated dedication and outstanding performance in one of the following areas.
Category: Umoja – Unity – Marriage and Family Award
• Nominees have established longevity in their relationship.
• Nominees have been married for fifty (50) years or more to the same person.
• Nominees have demonstrated commitment to their union/relationship and family.
Category: Ujima – Collective Work and Responsibility – Community Activist Award
• Nominee provides the community information relevant to their area of advocacy.
• Nominee shows clear program implementation and program outcomes.
• Nominee demonstrates the ability to organize movement(s) in the interest of the Black community.
Category: Kujichagulia – Self-Determination – The Artist Award
• Nominees demonstrate distinguished service.
• Nominees have shown creative accomplishment.
• Nominees work has benefitted the artistic and cultural life of Columbus, Ohio.
Category: – Ujamaa – Cooperative Economic – The Business Owner Award
• Nominee has been a business owner for a minimum of five (5) years.
• Nominee has established partnerships that benefit the community.
• Nominees organization and efforts are responsible for community change.
